The 27-year-old has penned a three-year contract at Turf Moor after Sean Dyche's men agreed an undisclosed fee with the German club for the striker.
Hennings was the top scorer in the second tier of German football last year, notching 18 times in 29 games, but needs international clearance before he can make his Clarets bow.
"It's nice to be here," Hennings said.
"I am very proud to be part of this club and I hope we have much success together.
"I think England, along with Germany, is the best place to play football and for me and my family, it is a great chance to get more experience.
"I met the manager earlier today and he talked me through his plans. It was a good meeting and now I want to help the team with my skills and I want to win every game."
