Italian hopes were fulfilled as Fill took advantage of his early start number to clock a time that was to eventually be beaten by a mere 0.05 seconds.
Maier's compatriot Hannes Reichelt was third 0.28 seconds off the pace.
Maier has now won the Super-G event in Kitzbuehel two years running.
American podium hopes were dashed when Daron Rahlves put in a below-par performance to bag sixth place while Bode Miller did not finish.
Miller attacked the course from the get-go but his aggression backfired as he took a gate too wide and missed his line skiing off the course.
The course was extremely icy and was getting chewed up by the minute. But the trickiest part of the run was most definitely the last jump leading to the line.
A few skiers struggled to keep their line after the drop down though most recovered to cross the line safely.
The most notable would have to be Erik Guay of Canada. Guay had put in a very fast top section and equalled it with an aggressive and positive bottom section
The Canadian was in line for the top spot finish, but the infamous last jump got the better of the skier and he lost a lot of seconds after getting too much lift off the jump.
