Jamaica appear to be continuing their impressive 100m legacy as Kishane Thompson qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris with a time of 9.77 seconds at the country's Olympic trials. The time makes the 22-year-old the fourth-quickest Jamaican in sprint history, and also means he is the joint-ninth quickest man ever in only his second professional season.

Kishane Thompson became one of the 10 fastest men in history after stopping the clock at 9.77 seconds in the 100m sprint at Friday’s Jamaican Olympic trials.
The 22-year-old made his first competitive appearance of the season to take part, and is set to compete at the Paris Olympic Games in just his second year as a professional.
His time of 9.77s makes him the joint-ninth fastest man in history, and the fourth-fastest in Jamaican sprinting, with Asafa Powell, Yohan Blake and Usain Bolt the only men to boast quicker times.
"My coach instructed me just to run the first 60 metres, nothing more - after that, shut it down," said Thompson afterwards.
"If I came second or third, I would’ve made the team. The goal wasn’t to prove anything tonight, just run the 70 or 60 metres and see where I was."
Shericka Jackson was the quickest in the women’s 100m, as she posted a time of 10.84s, a fraction ahead of Tia Clayton’s own 10.84s, and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s 10.94s.
“Coach and I sat down and talked about how we wanted to approach the season, and I think we did pretty good, having only ran one 100m prior to the national trials,” Jackson explained afterwards.
In Oregon, Grant Holloway put down a time of 12.86s - a career best - in the 110m hurdles as he qualified for the US ahead of the summer’s competition.
The 26-year-old claimed silver in Tokyo, and he is looking to improve in France.
"Do I look at it every day like it should have been mine? No.
"I’ve done four world championships, indoors and out, and I’ve got four gold medals. I feel like I’ve already solidified myself in that realm," said Holloway.
