A huge crash on Stage 5 of the Criterium du Dauphine saw numerous riders caught up in the incident. Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic were among the big names to be affected as riders were met with extremely slippery conditions. Steven Kruijswijk (Team Visma - Lease a Bike) was evacuated by ambulance, the Dauphine account on X said.

‘I crashed on my shoulder’ – Roglic to have assessment after collision

Primoz Roglic says he will need to have a potential shoulder injury checked by doctors after being caught up in a huge crash on Stage 5 of the Criterium du Dauphine.
The incident led to the race being neutralised.
The crash occurred on the descent of the cote de Bel-Air, with many riders including Roglic (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) being caught up in it.
Speaking as the day’s racing came to an end, Roglic said: “I crashed on my shoulder. It’s not the best, I had surgery a couple of years ago.
“We need to check it and be sure what kind of state it is but all the rest, for me, we are definitely a lot better than for some of the guys.”
The Slovenian rider was unable to provide assurances that he will continue with the race.
“I cannot say really nothing. Now just go to the doctors, do our checks and see what to do next,” he said.
Evenepoel was grateful for his cycling helmet after taking a heavy fall during the incident.
“I think overall it’s okay. Crashed on the right side,” he said.
“Crashed on my head as well as you can see, the helmet saved me today.
“I think there are guys in a worse situation than I am now so I hope and I wish everybody a good recovery.”
Evenepoel was involved in a crash - alongside Roglic once again - at the Tour of the Basque Country in April - which led to him breaking his collarbone.
The Belgian has been asked if he felt any ill effects to his shoulder due to his latest fall.
“I think it’s bleeding so we have to see what it will say,” he said.
Recalling the incident, Evenepoel said: “Everybody was fighting for position for the descent like always. Let’s say, the last tricky point of the course.
“Some guys start to slide just in front of me. I was really close to make it but then there was a bike that came under my bike and then, yeah, I just went over the head as it took my back wheels so a bit unlucky but I think I’m not the only one today.”
Evanepoel retains the yellow jersey, with a 33-second lead over Roglic.
