It is not long until the 2023 Giro d'Italia gets underway on May 6 in Ortona with the 106th edition culminating in what will surely be an enthralling and dramatic finale in Rome.

The race will see Britain's Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan) attempting to find some form ahead of his bid for the Tour de France stage record later this year.

Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) will also be hoping to find himself in contention, while his team-mate Tao Geoghegan Hart is also back, surely with dreams of replicating his unlikely feat of winning it all back in 2020.

But it all kicks off with Stage 1 and the 19.6km individual time trial from Costa dei Trabocchi (Fossacesia Marina) to Ortona. Let's find out some key details.

Every stage will be broadcast in its entirety on Eurosport 1, while you can watch ad-free on discovery+ and eurosport.co.uk.

The UK coverage will be bookended by The Breakaway, presented by Orla Chennaoui, who has Dan Lloyd, Adam Blythe and Robbie McEwen for company.

Rob Hatch, Sean Kelly, Lloyd and Blythe will be in the commentary box, with Jens Voigt and Alberto Contador doing their thing on the back of a motorbike.
