How to watch Stage 2 of the 2024 Tour de France on Sunday – TV and live stream details as Mark Cavendish fights on
Updated 30/06/2024 at 08:14 GMT
Mark Cavendish survived Stage 1 at the Tour de France and will need another show of grit on Sunday as six more categorised climbs await on the run from Cesenatico to Bologna. Cavendish finished 39 minutes behind winner Romain Bardet – but crucially within the time limit. Tadej Pogacar will be expected to animate proceedings on Stage 2 as he looks to dethrone Jonas Vingegaard. So how can you watch?
It was a quiet outing for the general classification big-hitters as the Tour de France got underway on Saturday - but we can expect plenty of fireworks on Stage 2.
Tadej Pogacar and his UAE Team Emirates crew are expected to take the fight to two-time defending champion Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike), meaning we can expect to see Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) and Primoz Roglic (Bora-Hansgrohe) dragged out of the shadows too.
After the peloton were stunned by dsm-firmenich PostNL breakaway duo Romain Bardet and Frank van den Broek, expect Sunday's escapees to be kept under close surveillance.
Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan) endured a horror opening stage on Saturday as he struggled with sickness in the extreme heat - and he will need another gritty display to beat the time cut here with another six categorised climbs on the run from Cesenatico to Bologna.
If he does survive, Cavendish will have his first shot of a record 35th win on Monday's first sprint stage...
