PHILIPSEN: I HAD A FEELING TODAY COULD BE MY DAY
It's incredible. Milano-Sanremo may be the only Monument I can win. I'm really proud, also with [team-mate] Mathieu [Van der Poel] in the final. He did an incredible job in the final. I'm really glad we could play it out as a team.
I had a feeling today could be my day. I had really good legs from the start. I was feeling good and I believed, but obviously everything needs to fall in place. On the Poggio the favourites looked a little at each other and I was able to come back. Mathieu did a big team job and I thank him a lot for what he did.
I was afraid that Mads [Pedersen] would be strong but I didn't expect Michael Matthews to be that good. I didn't have to do one sprint all day but after 300km a sprint feels really strange and different. I was happy I had the 5cm left to beat him.

MICHAEL MATTHEWS: IT'S HARD BUT I'M REALLY PROUD OF MYSELF
It's hard. Obviously I'm happy with the podium, but being so close it's bittersweet. Tomorrow morning I'll be happy with my performance, but in this moment right now, being this close to a Monument, after so many podiums, it's hard.
I did everything perfectly, I wouldn't change anything. I'm really proud of myself.

POGACAR: I HAD INCREDIBLE LEGS, BUT THIS YEAR IT WAS NOT HARD ENOUGH TO BE A CLIMBER'S RACE
We had a plan, we stuck to it but we missed maybe 10% on the Cipressa. Tim had to go full on the Poggio, so it was not too hard. I tried with two-time attack - I had incredible legs - but this year it was not hard enough to be a climber's race. I did everything I could to be in third place. I think today was one of the easiest races ever. Like I said before the race, everything needed to be perfection and although we did everything really good, the podium was the most we could do.

PICK THAT APART
I've just had a chance to get my breath and I can say, as Dan Lloyd and Orla just have, that I had no idea Philipsen was even there. That's how fast this finish came together. Attack after attack after attack concluded in the most surprising way possible, with ten riders finishing on the same time and the Tour de France green jersey rising above the rest.

JASPER PHILIPSEN WINS MILAN-SANREMO 2024!
It came down to the throw and Jasper Philipsen's beat that of Michael Matthews right on the line. Jasper Disaster is a Monument winner, and the first true sprinter to win La Primavera in years.
It's a finale that will take some dissecting as Pidcock was caught by the chasers, Philipsen jumped on Pedersen's wheel and manoeuvred his bike around at the last possible second to be ready for the sprint.
Tadej Pogacar, the man who kicked it all off, finished in third

1.3KM TO GO - MOHORIC CAUGHT

2.2KM TO GO - MOHORIC TIME
Full gas from the 2022 winner. Who is going to chase? It's not a big gap but it's pretty significant at this point in proceedings.
15:28
3KM TO GO - POGAGAR, PIDCOCK, VAN DER POEL
With Pedersen and Mohoric catching up. What a supergroup this would be, forming at the foot of the Poggio. This could get very interesting.
15:27
4.5KM TO GO - POGACAR THROWING EVERYTHING AT THIS
But it's not looking like enough as Pidcock uses his descending prowess to close the gap. Still others not far off the rear.
15:26
5.8KM TO GO - POGACAR GOES AGAIN!
A few hundred metres from the top and this time they hesitate. Van der Poel, out of position, sets off and it's just these two on the descent.
15:25
6.5KM TO GO - POGACAR BLASTS OFF
MVDP follows, Pedersen chases, so does Ganna and Bettiol. Eight at the front but this race hasn't broken yet.
15:23
7KM TO GO - VAN DER POEL RIGHT ON POGACAR'S WHEEL
He's ready, as Wellens buries himself.
15:22
8.1KM TO GO - TIM WELLENS TIME
The legs are hurting as the speedo hits 40kph. Going uphill.
15:22
8.5KM TO GO - FRED WRIGHT MOVING UP ON THE RIGHT OF THE BUNCH
What a popular winner he'd be.
15:20
9.3KM TO GO - POGGIO DI SAN REMO
This is it. 3.7km at 3.6%. This is a 35kph climb and we're about to experience the most exciting ten minutes of the entire cycling season. It's time to go. Tudor Pro Cycling and Groupama FDJ ripping up the early yards.

10KM TO GO - THE PELOTON SWELLS
A small bunch becomes a larger one, with Jonathan Milan and Luke Plapp among those getting back in contact, and Milan goes right to the front for Lidl-Trek. This might be messy...

15KM TO GO - IT'S ALL GOING TO COME DOWN TO THE POGGIO
The famous right turn where anything can happen. Marc Hirschi (UAE Emirates) is setting the pace.
