The Paris Olympics is set to showcase the world's best athletes in some of the most spectacular settings, and that's especially the case in the cycling events. Montmartre provides the backdrop for the finish of the men's and women's road races, while the time trials will pass through the Vélodrome Jacques Anquetil and end on the Pont Alexandre III. Here are some of the gold medal candidates...

The road cycling events at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games look set to thrill fans, with the likes of Tadej Pogacar and Demi Vollering among those likely to challenge for the cherished gold medals on offer.
The Olympics come at a busy time in the cycling calendar, with the Tour de France culminating just five days before the Games begin, and the Tour de France Femmes starting straight after they have finished.
The teams are beginning to be confirmed for the Olympics, with every minute available to stream on discovery+.
Wout Van Aert and Remco Evenepoel have been named in both races for a strong Belgium men's roster, while Tom Pidcock will go for Great Britain in the Road Race.
Slovenia are yet to name their group, but Pogacar is expected to take part despite his Giro d'Italia and Tour exertions.
On the women's side, the Netherlands team for the road is stacked with a star cast of Ellen van Dijk, Demi Vollering, Marianne Vos and Lorena Wiebes.
