Under Football League rules, all of Portsmouth's 32 matches played so far would have to be scrapped from the record – which would be good news for some and bad news for others.
The two big losers would be West Ham United and Ipswich Town, who have both done the double against the south coast club this season.
If they lost their six points gained against Portsmouth, the Hammers would find themselves slipping out of the automatic promotion spots down to third.
Ipswich meanwhile would go from being 12 points clear of safety to just six if they lost their six Pompey points despite only two teams now facing the drop.
The team that would jump the most spots would be Middlesbrough, who would go from eighth place into a play-off position of fifth.
No club has gone out of business during the season since Fourth Division Aldershot back in March 1992.
The below table valid as of 17:00 Friday March 2nd.
