Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid live – Copa Del Rey latest as an Antoine Griezmann stunner has Atletico on the cusp of the quarters

Alvaro Morata gets his head down and runs toward goal before taking on a shot which is into a Real Madrid body and Los Blancos eventually win a free kick and get the ball forward.

The visitors are really growing in this game now, moving the ball about with confidence and look threatening every time they go forward. Atletico are trying to create openings going forward but it's not quite happened for Simeone's side so far.

The tackles are coming in thick and fast, both sides are trying to win the ball back quickly and this game has got a really good tempo about it.

That was almost a magical goal from Jude Bellingham. He burst into the penalty area, slipping the ball through Witsel's legs before smashing an effort off the crossbar. Oblak had absolutely no chance with that one and Atletico will be thanking the woodwork.

Neither side is yet to really penetrate the other, with both keeping the ball when they've got it and looking to work their way up the field.

Diego Simeone’s side have struggled for consistency recently. In La Liga, they have won just one of their last four and have been leaking more goals than usual, conceding two to Athletic Club, three to Getafe and four to Girona during this run, not to mention the five they conceded in their last match in the Supercopa de Espana to Real Madrid.

Atletico sit in fifth place in La Liga, 11 points leaders Girona and 10 behind their Madrid rivals. Tonight though, is a cup competition and Simeone will be hoping his players can turn it on in front of their home crowd and get a win that could turn their season around. After all, the last team to beat Real Madrid was Atletico, back on the 24th of September 2023 in La Liga.

You don’t have to look too far for the last time these two sides went head to head, having met just eight days ago in the Supercopa de Espana semi-final.

It was a thoroughly entertaining match that finished 3-3 in normal time before Carlo Ancelotti’s side scored twice in extra time thanks to Joselu and Brahim Diaz to win 5-3. Los Blancos went on to hammer Barcelona 4-1 in the final to get their hands on the first piece of silverware this season and will be hoping they can once again knock out Atletico Madrid and march toward the latter stages of this competition.
