Euro 2024: 'We need to be protected the same way Germany, England or Italy are', says Hungary boss Marco Rossi

Hungary manager Marco Rossi has claimed that his side need to be afforded the same protection as more established sides like Germany, England and Italy at Euro 2024. On Sunday, Rossi's side face Scotland in a must-win Group A encounter for both sides if either are to make it into the last 16 in Germany, with Julian Nagelsmann's side already through as group winners.

"Germany don't need help from the referee' - Hungary head coach Rossi

Hungary manager Marco Rossi feels that his side need "to be protected in the same way" as the bigger nations at Euro 2024.
The Italian, whose Hungarian side are bottom of Group A, was particularly upset at a free-kick that was not awarded in the lead-up to Germany's opening goal in the hosts' 2-0 win over Hungary in Stuttgart.
Hungary, captained by Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, are winless in their opening two games in Germany, having lost 3-1 to Switzerland in their first match.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Hungary's must-win encounter with Scotland, Rossi called for "consistency" from the tournament's referees, with Argentine Facundo Tello taking charge of Sunday's match in Stuttgart.
“I expect what I have always expected from all match officials: that they are consistent from the first minute to the last,” Rossi said.
“Unfortunately, the Dutch referee didn’t do that in our match against Germany. That’s it.
“I am not looking for excuses. If they had blown for what I thought was a blatant foul before the first goal, Germany would probably still have won because they scored another goal in the second half. That’s not the point here.
"The point is a team’s ability in a tournament like this, specifically when you have VAR, a team’s prestige shouldn’t come into it. Us or Georgia need to be protected the same way Germany, England or Italy are.”

‘We know we have to win’ - All or nothing for Scotland coach Clarke ahead of Hungary clash

Hungary's opponents - Steve Clarke's Scotland - are in a stronger position to reach the last 16 following their 1-1 draw with Switzerland on matchday two.
The Scots know that a win would take them up to four points and almost guarantee them a spot in the knockout stages as one of the best-performing third-placed sides.
However, with Rossi's side eager for a first win in the competition, they will face a stern test from Szoboszlai, Milos Kerkez, and co.
Rossi expects his skipper, Szoboszlai, to be available despite the midfielder training on his own on Saturday.
“There is no real concern over him at this stage,” Rossi said.
“It was a very long [domestic] campaign for him in particular, so what matters now is rest and recovery.”
