Kylian Mbappe earned a bizarre yellow card after refusing to leave the pitch after suffering a suspected broken nose in a nasty collision. The incident took place towards the end of France’s 1-0 victory against Austria in their Euro 2024 opener, with Mbappe sustaining the facial injury after colliding heavily with Kevin Danso. It was later confirmed he did suffer a break, and will wear a mask.

Kylian Mbappe was forced off during France’s Euro 2024 opener against Austria with a suspected broken nose.
The 25-year-old collided with Kevin Danso’s shoulder as the match neared its conclusion, falling to the floor with a bloody nose.
He was unable to continue, but still managed to pick up a yellow card as he was taken off the pitch.
Referee Jesus Gil Manzano did not allow France to make the necessary substitutions immediately, leaving the team with 10 players as they defended a 1-0 lead.
Mbappe decided to take matters into his own hands, re-entering the pitch and sitting down.
He received a yellow card for walking onto the field of play without permission, but his actions allowed France manager Didier Deschamps to make his substitutions and restore his team to full strength.
France got over the line to secure a 1-0 win in Group D, with Maximilian Wober's own goal in the 38th minute making the difference.
Deschamps later told TF1: "Yes, Kylian Mbappe has probably broken his nose."
Team-mate N'Golo Kante admitted the players were concerned when they saw Mbappe depart.
"We were worried to see Kylian leave the pitch," Kante said. "We don't know what the situation is, but we want to see him back soon."
Speaking in his press conference, Deschamps said: "Kylian is not good. It was a bad blow.
"His nose is not good. It is complicated.
"That is the one bad moment of the evening."
It was later confirmed by the French Football Federation that Mbappe did break his nose, and that will wear a mask having avoided the need for surgery.
Former Manchester United and Ireland defender Roy Keane was critical of Mbappe's actions after the injury, describing them as "out of order".
"He gets an injury," Keane said on ITV. "He's gone back on the pitch, trying to stop the play. He has gone to sit on the pitch and I don't like to see this, it is out of order.
"He has obviously had treatment, he has gone back on the pitch, I know players can make mistakes, but he's gone back on to sit on the pitch, he deserved that yellow card. I don't like to see it."
