GERMANY PROGRESS AS HOSTS SEE OFF HUNGARY 2-0 IN STUTTGART
Germany secured passage to the round of 16 at Euro 2024 following a routine 2-0 victory against Hungary in Stuttgart.
Germany knew a win would make them the first side to advance to the latter stages of the competition, and Julian Nagelsmann's side didn't disappoint.
Goals from Jamal Musiala and Ilkay Gundogan was enough for Germany to see off the challenge of Marco Rossi's side, but it wasn't as easy as many would've thought going into the game.
Germany's first goal came when Hungary stopper Peter Gulacsi dived at the feet of Gundogan, but instead of smothering the ball and taking control of it, he seemingly pushed it back to Gundogan, who passed it to Musiala, and the Bayern Munich man had the easy task of placing the ball into the net through several Hungary defenders.
Hungary however weren't cowed by Germany's goal, and arguably should've equalised when Rolland Sallai's cross was met by Bernabas Varga, but the striker couldn't keep his header down, and it sailed over the crossbar.
This was Hungary's best chance.Germany then added a second with a sweeping move involving Musiala, Mittelstadt and Gundogan, with the Barcelona midfielder arriving in the box unmarked to score and end all Hungary hopes.
Germany are now through, but Hungary still has a chance to qualify to the round of 16, granted they earn a win against Scotland in the final group stage game on Sunday.

FULL TIME
Germany 2-0 Hungary
Germany win to progress to the knockout rounds. A few scary moments aside, it was a fairly routine victory for Julian Nagelsmann's side, and you got the feeling they could've upped the tempo had they needed to.
Hungary, in fairness, gave them a much tougher game than Scotland did, and Hungary now need to beat Scotland in the final group stage in order to have a chance of qualifying to the latter stages.

HUNGARY CHANCE!
Hungary very nearly got themselves a late consolation, as Kimmich is forced to clear the ball off his own goal line as Neuer lost control of the ball from a Hungary cross.

FINAL 10 MINUTES
We're heading into the final 10 minutes now, and both sides could've scored, with Fuhrich blasting well wide from a tight angle, and Hungary looking threatening from a corner, which forced Kimmich to head over his own bar.

GUNDOGAN GOAL

X REACTION
Fair to say the German national team's X account is fairly happy with Gundogan's second.

GOAL!
Just when it looked like Hungary were getting a foothold in the game, Germany add a second to perhaps kill off any hope.
More crisp passing from Germany on the periphery of the Hungarian box sees Musiala slide the ball to Mittelstadt down the left-hand channel, who passes the ball with precision into the feet of Man City midfielder Gundogan, who sweeps the ball into the net unmarked with his left foot into the bottom corner.
Just a wonderfully taken goal by Germany.

BIG CHANCE
Major chance for Hungary! A cross from the left-hand side is met in the box by Varga, and the Hungarian forward tried to head the ball back in the direction it came, but it sailed over the crossbar with Neuer beaten.
Big chance for Hungary that they might regret missing.

GERMAN SUBSTITUTIONS
Florian Wirtz and Kai Havertz are being replaced by Leroy Sane and Niclas Fullkrug.

PASSING
The passing from both teams at times during this game has been exceptional, especially interchanges in the middle of the field. Hungary just went on a marvellous run via one and two-touch passing.
End product by both sides has been lacking though.

HALF-TIME
Germany 1-0 Hungary
Germany scored early on through Musiala after Gulacsi's fumble, yet Hungary have proved Germany can be got at if the game is taken to them. This game is far from over, and Hungary boss Marco Rossi can be happy with what he's seen.
Germany are playing some slick passing, and just the end product has let them down at times, but Julian Nagelsmann can also be happy with how his side has played.

GOAL CANCELLED
Hungary thought they'd equalised just before half-time. Szoboszlai's in swinging free-kick was headed towards goal, Neuer could only parry the ball into the feet of Sallai, who scored.
However the Dutch referee Makkelie blew his whistle as Orban was offside in the beginning of the move. Yet it's a warning to Germany.

CHANCE
Many believed Musiala had scored his second of the game, with a tremendous effort from outside the box after a beautiful series of passes from Germany. However Musiala's shot hit the top of the side netting, but it still prompted a cheer from the crowd, only to realise it wasn't a goal.
