If you're going to mark zonally, you've got to be more proactive than Netherlands were, but nevertheless, a quality ball and quality connection are almost impossible to defend against.

And his low shot is blocked behind for a corner.

It's so good to be into a tournament. I missed the first three games due to Judaism, but already I'm involved. You just cannot beat wall-to-wall football.

But Poland need to do better in stopping them passing out because here they come again, a long ball finding Dumfries high and wide. Again, a cross to the back post follows, Gakpo up early, and though his knock-down can't find Simons, you sense that an opening goal isn't far away.

Depay foraging down the right then, when Dumfries whacks it towards the back stick, Gakpo comes away from the by-line to work a shooting lane, Frankowski too slow to shut it, and his low effort is scrambled away at the near post by Szczesny.

Netherlands have them - lots of them. No one will fancy facing Jeremie Frimpong after an hour or so of graft, Ian Maatsen is also in great nick, and I'd love a proper look at Joshua Zirkzee.

I'm looking forward to seeing how he does over the next few weeks. He's had a terrific season at Leipzig and will know that this could be his time to announce himself to the world.

A fine, fine player. But nowhere near as good as he once was, in mine - no one, not even him, can return from a cruciate late in their career the same player - and though he might be able to dredge a performance or two from the recesses of his soul, I can't see him being definitive in this tournament.
