SUPER-SUB CONCEICAO EARNS STOPPAGE-TIME WIN FOR PORTUGAL
Francisco Conceicao smashed home an injury-time winner to get Portugal’s Euro 2024 campaign off to a perfect start as Cristiano Ronaldo’s side rescued all three points from a game that looked destined for a draw against dogged Czechia.
After a goalless first half, Lukas Provod put the underdogs ahead from outside the penalty area with a scorching shot worthy of the quickly bulging goal-of-the-tournament shortlist, after Portugal had dominated proceedings from virtually the first minute.
They replied just seven minutes later thanks to a Robin Hranac own-goal assisted by Jindrich Stanek who had an error-strewn performance between the sticks, but the game looked destined for a draw when Diogo Jota’s 88th-minute goal was ruled out for offside.
But with Roberto Martinez making three substitutions for the final four minutes, two of those combined for the winner as Pedro Neto set up Conceicao for a dream start to his competitive international career.
The win means Portugal join fellow favourites England, France, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands in winning their first game of the tournament, but remain behind Turkey in Group F who they play next.

FULL-TIME: PORTUGAL 2-1 CZECHIA
And that's how it finishes. Barak had one more chance but looped his header over from an offside position and there's no mistaking what the result means to Ronaldo, he targets the winner immediately with a gleeful hug with Portugal beginning their campaign in triumphant fashion.
It wasn't undeserved either, Portugal had most of the ball and the best chances, even though both goals were as a result of Czech errors. They're far from out of it either though, with games against Georgia and Turkey still to come.

GOAL!!!! PORTUGAL 2-1 CZECHIA (CONCEICAO)
THIS TIME THEY'VE REALLY DONE IT!!! Neto surged into the box from the left flank and scorched a pass across the line of the six-yard box. Hranac is the unfortunate party once again, he slipped onto the ball and killed it for Conceicao to lash it home on his competitive debut and surely snatch the three points!

NO GOAL!!! PORTUGAL 1-1 CZECHIA
The semi-automated system makes the decision very quickly and Ronaldo's shoulder was indeed offside, the Czechs have a reprieve! That looked like the decisive moment but Portugal must go again.

GOAL!!! PORTUGAL 2-1 CZECHIA (JOTA)
Scored by Jota, made by guess who? RONALDO!! It was yet another cross aimed at Ronaldo by Cancelo and he thought he'd scored with a thumping header across goal.
It slammed into the post but Jota was there first to turn it in, and Portugal lead for the first time! There is a VAR check though...

GIVE IT TO ME!
Ronaldo's frustrated after Portugal keep the ball for way too long on the edge of the area without lifting it in, and eventually lose possession. Sevcik is also on to reinforce the Czech rearguard effort.

INSTANT IMPACT
It's more like Barak will be feeling the instant impact after Fernandes kicked him in the face, but he nearly got revenge immediately! He received the ball at his feet around 10 yards out but Dias was quick to stretch and block the effort. It rebounded to Soucek, but the captain produced a tired shot after a full rugby match's work.

LACK OF CREATIVITY?
Stanek gets both fists behind another fizzing long-range Vitinha shot, it's not just that and the goal either - he's parried quite a few balls that have come his way. But Portugal aren't asking many questions inside the area.

FIZZLING OUT
Czechia are preparing a double-change, with both sides seemingly taking a breather. Hopefully that precipitates a breathless final quarter of an hour but right now Portugal are content to control the ball 30 yards from Stanek's goal.

WHO WANTS IT?
Fatigue from a game of defending may well have played a part in Czechia conceding that goal, but the good news is that it's still all square. A draw here would keep them right in contention to escape the group, but Portugal have redoubled their efforts with the introduction of Jota making a clear difference.

GOAL!! PORTUGAL 1-1 CZECHIA (HRANAC OG)
You can't keep a good side down though! Bernardo Silva sent the Czech defence backpedalling before pulling it back to Vitinha who lifted the ball to the back post, where Mendes did very well to keep it alive. Stanek parried the ball - always dangerous with such a crowded goalmouth - and Hranac is desperately unlucky to see it clang off his leg and into the net.

THEY WANT ANOTHER
But it's Czechia who have responded better, pressing higher up the pitch with Portugal knowing a second would spell absolute disaster.

GOAL! PORTUGAL 0-1 CZECHIA (PROVOD)
It's yet another screamer from outside the box and Czechia are ahead!!! Mojmir Chytil had only just come on but deserves a heap of credit for chasing an apparent lost cause of a cross, his return ball was headed away but Provod found himself in space and unleashed a thunderbolt curling across the goal that nestled in the corner to the right of a despairing Diogo Costa.

HAD TO SHOOT
He'll want that one back. Silva ghosted into the Czech box as a gap opened up and had the chance to shoot, but chose instead to attempt a cross that was blocked by a sliding Robin Hramac. Absolutely crucial intervention.
Meanwhile Ivan Hasek has removed Schick, possibly mindful of that yellow card.

LIKE A TIME MACHINE
Free-kick from 25 yards out and THAT stance, we've seen the moment precede a Ronaldo goal on so many occasions.
Schick had fouled Cancelo with a striker's challenge but in another sign that age has sapped even Ronaldo, his dipping delivery is too close to Stanek and he gathers easily.

RONALDO CLOSE AGAIN
The five players with the most touches are all Portuguese but it's interesting that Ronaldo as seen exactly as much of the ball as Schick with 21.
Number 21 was almost a difference-maker though, Ronaldo attacked a cross on the edge of the six-yard box but Holes denied him, before Soucek is in that position moments later to again deny CR7.

QUALITY JOCKEYING
Doudera was given the thankless task of defending against Silva in an isolated position, but responded superbly to prevent the wizard opening up any space and eventually the Cityzen fired another shot safely over the bar.

WHERE'S THE GOAL COMING FROM?
Czechia have the most natural centre-forward on the pitch in the form of Patrik Schick, so it's even more unfortunate that he's forced wide and attempts to send a cross in rather than looking to get on the end of one - his delivery is worse than harmless.
