Barcelona midfielder Xavi could make his first team return against Mallorca on Sunday. The 26-year-old has recovered from the shin injury that has kept him out of three club matches, along with Spain's midweek friendly against Romania.
However, club doctor Ricard Pruna warned that Xavi still had to work on restoring the muscle mass in his lower leg and was by no means a certainty to feature at Son Moix.
"They only thing he is missing at the moment is match fitness. When a player stops for so many days, his muscles can suffer," said Pruna.
If he is unable to make the weekend trip, Xavi should return to face Levski Sofia in the UEFA Champions League next Monday.
The fixture has become a must-win encounter for the Catalans, who have taken just two points from their last three Group A encounters and risk losing out to Chelsea and Werder Bremen in the race for last 16 berths.
By that stage Frank Rijkaard should also have defender Edmilson and midfielder Andres Iniesta at his disposal.
