Strasbourg v Paris Saint-Germain LIVE: Ligue 1 updates as PSG look to extend lead at the top

Kylian Mbappe enjoyed a topsy-turvy evening in Strasbourg as he missed a penalty, scored his 20th goal of the season and set up the winner in a 2-1 away win that stretches Paris Saint-Germain’s lead at the top of the table.

A dramatic start to the game saw Mbappe’s penalty spectacularly saved by Strasbourg goalkeeper Alaa Bellaarouch, with the Moroccan stopper brilliantly tipping the spot-kick over the bar.

But Bellaarouch’s evening took a calamitous turn for the worse when he delayed a clearing kick, allowing Marco Asensio to block it into the path of an unmarked Mbappe, who slotted into an empty net.

Strasbourg had missed a number of decent opportunities in the first half and were unfortunate to find themselves a goal down at the break. But they were soon two behind after the restart, when Mbappe began a counter-attack with a brilliant back-heel before racing up-field to play a gorgeous cross to Asensio, who finished off a flowing counter-attack move.

Dilane Bakwa’s well-taken volley earned Strasbourg the goal that they deserved and set up a fascinating end to the game, with Patrick Vieira’s young side creating a number of great opportunities to deny PSG the win.

But the league leaders held on and extend the gap at the top of the table to nine points, with their closest rivals yet to play in matchday 20.

The final whistle goes and the Strasbourg players collapse to the turf after missing out on a huge opportunity to get a result against PSG. The lead at the top of the table is temporarily up to nine points for Paris Saint-Germain, but they rode their luck here.

The ball drops to Sylla in the box. He has time and space, but he rushes his header that loops into the arms of Donnarumma. Strasbourg should be getting something from this game, but they only have their own woeful finishing to blame.

Strasbourg are pushing hard for an equaliser and they get a decent chance as a cross is met by the head of Sissoko, who can only turn his effort straight at the keeper. He had to generate a lot of power there in fairness, but still would have expected to have done better.

Diarra’s worked his socks off tonight and is replaced for the conclusion of this game.

Kolo Muani and Marquinhos are withdrawn by PSG

The ball breaks for Bakwa at the back post, who opts to go for goal from a narrow angle and lashes his effort off-target.

Vieira isn’t happy about how lenient the referee is being as PSG escape further punishment for halting a Strasbourg attack. The referee does brandish a card, but it’s to the Strasbourg boss for his dissent.

Senaya lunges into a challenge and catches Mbappe on the shin. That’s a pretty clumsy challenge, to say the least, although the home fans believe it’s a dive from the PSG man. The referee does give the free-kick, but opts against a card, which is fortunate for Senaya, who is on a yellow already.

PSG still lead despite Strasbourg come back into it, and they got off the mark here thanks to this Mbappe goal:

Strasbourg should surely score as PSG give the ball away, but Donnarumma makes a stunning double save. First Mwanga’s effort from range is denied, and then the keeper gets quickly back to his feet to save from Emegha, who had options square of him too. That should be 2-2.

We’ve got a game on in Strasbourg. A beautiful deep cross from Borges finds Bakwa at the back post, who takes it first time with a side-footed volley to pull a goal back. 2-1!

Mwanga has a crack from range, but his shot drifts wide with Donnarumma untroubled.

Senaya is booked for catching Mbappe with a stray arm. He’s unhappy with the decision, but he did stick his arm out and he did catch Mbappe in the face. The PSG man is still down, which seems a bit excessive unless there was more damage sustained than it first looked.

The home crowd are growing increasingly tetchy as the referee opts against giving a foul on Diarra as PSG halt a counter. It probably wasn’t a foul, but the player is still down and so play is eventually stopped.

Strasbourg think they’ve won the ball with players in space on their left, but the referee blows for a foul on Soler, much to the dissatisfaction of the home crowd.

Ugarte is a massive player for this PSG team, and the defensive midfielder is withdrawn with the job potentially done. Vitinha comes on for him.
