Arsenal have abandoned their usual routine of travelling to Austria in order to better exploit commercial opportunities in Asia, and so it was at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium that Samir Nasri, on as a second-half substitute, made his first appearance of pre-season as speculation continues to surround his future.
Aaron Ramsey opened the scoring from the penalty spot after only five minutes, Theo Walcott and Carlos Vela both produced accomplished lobs and Tomas Rosicky headed home in added time to give the Gunners a confident start to their pre-season programme.
Wenger also gave Carl Jenkinson a debut following his summer move from Charlton, while Arsenal's Asian fans were gifted a first glimpse of Japanese forward Ryo Miyaichi, who enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Feyenoord last season.
Arsenal were looking to put on a show for their supporters in the region and were ahead inside five minutes. Kieran Gibbs played in Jack Wilshere and the midfielder was sent tumbling by a clumsy challenge in the box.
The duty of taking the spot-kick fell to fellow midfielder Ramsey and he stuck his effort confidently down the middle to put the Gunners 1-0 up inside five minutes.
Wilshere was at the heart of everything Arsenal did and orchestrated another opening when exchanging passes with Marouane Chamakh and releasing Walcott on the right. The winger took a touch to control but his shot was too heavy as he attempted to lob the keeper.
Kieran Gibbs looked bright on his audition to replace the departed Gael Clichy, though fellow full-back Jenkinson, making his debut following a summer move from Charlton, had a more tricky evening.
Malaysia All-Stars grew in confidence as the half progressed and forced Wojciech Szczesny into action when a deep free-kick threatened to dip under the bar, but as expected it was the Premier League side who dominated possession in Kuala Lumpur.
On 37 minutes they doubled their lead and this time it was Ramsey who was the creator. The midfielder picked out Walcott with a lovely diagonal pass and the England man finished with a deft lob with the inside of his right boot to beat the onrushing goalkeeper.
Wenger made eight changes at the start of the second half, with only Jenkinson, Miyaichi and Ramsey surviving the cull, and the Welshman passed up an excellent chance to claim a second when blasting over the bar following a lovely touch from substitute Vela.
The forward, who spent a spell on loan at West Brom last season, made a big impact on the match and scored after 59 minutes with a finish that has become his trademark. The Mexican wriggled away from two markers to collect a through-ball from Rosicky and produced an excellent chipped finish over the keeper.
Nasri, who has refused to sign a new contract and has been targeted by Manchester City, was then introduced and almost created a fourth goal when he waltzed past a succession of challenges. The ball was then worked to Vela who put the goalkeeper on the ground with a feint, but proved too indulgent in waiting for the perfect time to slot the ball home and eventually saw his effort blocked.
Vela had yet another chance when latching onto an outrageous reverse pass from Robin van Persie and nicking the ball away from the keeper, but failed to get his shot away.
As the game entered injury time, Andrei Arshavin burst clear on the left and dinked in a cross for Rosicky, who converted from close range with a header to round off a successful outing for the North London side.
