Villa have got to use the flanks in the second half and supply more service for Bent, while Wigan have got to find a way to really test Friedel. I imagine we'll see the returning Victor Moses before too long.

This is a game being played in midfield, with 41% of the play in the middle of the park. Wigan have been attacking largely down the right and through the middle, with Villa almost exclusively attacking through the centre.

Villa are playing with little width at the minute - with Young and Agbonlahor providing ample pace and abilty on the flanks, you'd expect this to change.

Thomas wins a free-kick off Reo-Coker after a little nudge from the former Wimbledon player.

Wigan could do with a spot of composure in the final third. Some nice build-up play, but no end product.

Wigan are coming into the game as it goes on - they dealt with the early pressure and Villa haven't threatened in the past ten minutes or so.

Figueroa and N'Zogbia link-up well but Villa continue to defend well at the last, and clear the ball. Credit must go to Nathan Baker so far who is doing very well against the Frenchman.

Wigan have gone five games without a win in the Premier League, they could really do with one tonight.

Gohouri seems to be doing his best to help Villa win. An incredibly stray pass, if a pass can go incredibly astray, but Agbonlahor in, but the striker isn't ready and stumbles over the ball.

Neat play by Young and Makoun - a little give-and-go on the edge of the area, but Young doesn't have much space and his effort goes wide.

Villa have a corner, and it's driven in deep by Downing but Al Habsi, on loan from Bolton, collects confidently at the back post.
