Having said that, they slip the ball into Anichebe, who rolls Collins. Just as he looks to strike on goal though the big defender puts in a wonderful recovery tackle.

Baines is offering continued width but there is slightly less zip to the home side’s play now.

That effort there sums up the direct threat that West Ham offer – although not playing well they can create chances out of very little.

Jarvis looks early for Nolan, who takes a touch before firing across Howard. The American does well to get down to push the effort wide.

West Ham having a bit more of it now.

Howard goes long and Anichebe takes a lovely touch on his chest before laying off to Gibson. His whipped delivery is cleared though.

Wes Ham have a decent spot of possession and do well to work the ball back out to Demel having knocked it about nicely in central midfield but he lofts an aimless one into the box that Howard claims.

Everton have had seven attempts to West Ham’s one.

He was literally on the edge of the six-yard box, Anichebe.

What a chance. Pienaar finds Mirallas inside the box and he skips past four flailing West Ham challenges but off-balance he scuffs his shot. The scuffed effort falls to Anichebe, who hammers one right at Jaaskelainen.

Nolan makes some ground down the right to win a throw deep in Everton territory. Demel finds Collins who swings the ball in aimlessly.

West Ham clear the corner but it is returned straight to them.

Anichebe receives the ball back to goal, turns his man and his shot – that looked on target – is deflected wide for a corner.

West Ham put together their first concerted period of passing almost twenty minutes in but it comes to an end with a loose one from Jarvis.

Anichebe has been a little isolated thus far in spite of his side’s superiority – this time Collins nips and steals the pass intended for him from Pienaar.

Mirallas has looked incredibly bright thus far and is almost in again but a combination of Jaaskelainen and Collins deny him.

Pienaar slips a ball to Mirallas inside Demel who had gone AWOL but the Belgian international went a fraction too soon when there was no need to do so.

West Ham need to get tighter here and when they do get the ball they need to show a little more quality.

Osman shifts the ball wide to Coleman who digs out a cross looking for Fellaini. The return ball to Osman was the one that was on though so West Ham clear.
