With a 20th league title virtually in the bag and no more European distractions, Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is challenging his side to push for a Premier League points record. United visit Sunderland and victory would open up an 18-point lead, at least until second-placed Manchester City host Newcastle United later.

There goes the final whistle! A 1-0 for United. All very comfortable in the end for the visiting side. They are 18 points clear at the top.
90+5'
Mignolet makes the stop from Van Persie as Young breaks clear. Fine stop as United look to tie up a second goal.
90+4'
Little or nothing happening for Sunderland. Looks like United are almost over the line as United try to run down the clock.

Those six minutes due to the treatment needed for De Gea and Vidic. Van Persie caught narrowly offside.

We are into six minutes of time added on to this mtch.
88'
Sunderland once again on the move, but a solid piece of play by Carrick again to break up a home attack.
87'
Van Persie takes a tumble before getting back on his feet. Wickham fires a shot at goal through the legs of Smalling, but easy enough take for De Gea.
86'
United happy to defend on the edge of their own box for these closing moments. Difficult to see where Sunderland's equaliser is going to come from.
85'
Wickham is tackled by Smalling before Colback's cross is plucked out of the air by De Gea. No home players challenging in the United box.
84'
United fans feeling warm in the cold. This has been a professional display so far by United.

Off goes Rose and on comes Jack Colback for Sunderland. All or nothing at all now for Martin O'Neill's team.

Evans makes an excellent tackle on Rose as United look to bring the ball out from deep. Has been a fairly comfortable afternoon for Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

Sunderland remain 16th in the table as we stand. Who knows where they will be at the end of the day. Could really do with a point from this contest.
79'
Vidic arrives late from Young's corner, but he nods wide of goal. A real chance for United to kill this match off with a free header. But not taken.
78'
Brilliant strike by Buttner from 25 yards out. Lost N'Diaye, but Mignolet does well to make a strong diving stop. Another United corner coming up.
77'
Seb Larsson takes over from Scotland full-back Bardsley as Sunderland try to rescue a point from this match late on.
76'
Welbeck is wheeled on to take over from Kagawa as United make their latest change.
75'
Manchester United have dropped only four points from the previous 17 Premier League games that they'd scored the first goal in this season. Doesn't look good for Sunderland in that respect.
74'
Bardsley with his latest attempt on goal. Nice play by O'Shea out wide, but Bardsley's volley is well over the bar.
