Good evening and welcome to LIVE text coverage of the Barclays Premier League clash between Liverpool and Aston Villa at Anfield. The hosts will be hoping to build upon a solid start to the new campaign after winning two of their opening three fixtures. A superb 3-0 success at Tottenham prior to the international break has set the standard for Brendan Rodgers' men after they followed up a sluggish 2-1 opening day triumph over Southampton with a 3-1 defeat at champions Manchester City. Meanwhile, Aston Villa have surprised their critics thus far with wins over Hull and Stoke while a draw with Newcastle ensures they remain unbeaten in the league heading into tonight's match in L4. Kick off 5.30pm BST.

Markovic bursts into the box on the right but opts to jink past a man he can't beat. There were a couple of red shirts waiting free on the edge of the area then - poor decision.

Villa are definitely the better team so far and could perhaps be left to regret not adding to their tally...

Sterling has left the bench and is warming up. Could he be introduced at the break?

The crux of Liverpool's problems with set pieces...

Half chance for Villa. Another corner is missed by Hutton at the near post but rifles through to Senderos who can only stab it well wide. It came too quickly for the Swiss to adjust. If he'd anticipated it Liverpool could well be 2-0 down.

Westwood arcs it to the far post where a back pedalling Henderson just about gets enough on it to guide it away from Senderos.

No sooner is that said and Villa break at pace! Cissokho surges down the left and wins a corner.

A lot of square passes from the home side as they struggle to build any real momentum. Villa happy to drop off, but they've lost the counter attacking threat they were posing so well early on.

You get the feeling Liverpool may already have to start looking towards the bench... Sterling was a surprise omission and could inject some much-needed pace in the second period.

LIVERPOOL CHANCE! Coutinho dinks a neat ball into the area for Henderson's diagonal run. The England man nods it back for Lallana whose side-foot attempt is blocked by Senderos from eight yards out.

Manquillo fires a cross in from the right but Senderos heads away. Villa dropping deeper to the edge of their own area.

Liverpool with a fair bit of the ball at present but it's all in front of a well-drilled Villa side.

A replay of Senderos v Balotelli... Make up your own mind!
27'
As it stands Villa will go second, two points behind Chelsea. A lot of football to played yet, mind you.

Pretty much sums it up!

Lallana goes down in the area after a heavy touch followed a lovely turn. Hutton is fuming but there was nothing in it. No dive and no real claim for a penalty.

The Anfield crowd trying to sing their side out of a lull that has been in effect since kick off.

Agbonlahor loves playing against Liverpool it seems.

Villa could be down to 10 men as Senderos kicks out at Balotelli. The Italian goes down but the referee didn't see the off-the-ball incident. Strange from the Swiss, very strange!
