Victor Valdes will not be allowed to fight for the Manchester United number one jersey despite being named in their 25-man Premier League squad, according to a report.

The Manchester Evening News insist the Spaniard’s inclusion was merely United conforming to rules.
Teams can only omit players from their squad list if they exceed the quota of 25 players. Valdes was part of a 21-strong United contingent for the new season.
Valdes has been on the periphery at Old Trafford since Louis van Gaal’s pre-season revelation that the stopper refused to play for the reserves. However, that claim was staunchly denied by Valdes on social media.
He remains without a squad number and was absent from United's Champions League squad list.
OUR VIEW
This is getting ridiculous. United are in danger of alienating every goalkeeper at the club. So he supposedly refused to play for the U21s - have they forgotten David De Gea wanted to quit the club entirely?
He’s a far superior number two to the ropey Sergio Romero. Imagine if De Gea’s form drops following his turbulent summer? Why would you risk Romero between the posts – it could be the difference between first and second (or fourth and fifth).
It also makes little sense. If Valdes refused to play for the U21s last season – and yet was picked for United’s final Premier League game (i.e. after the alleged transgression took place) – then why was it suddenly dredged up? United are playing a very risky game.
