Tottenham news: Ally McCoist says top four would be 'raving success' for Ange Postecoglou in debut season

Ange Postecoglou has been tasked with leading a new era at Tottenham following a disastrous 2022/23 campaign where Antonio Conte was sacked and Spurs finished eighth. TNT Sports expert Ally McCoist expects the Australian to bring an "easy on the eye" style of football. But with other clubs improving, the Scot believes a top-four finish would be a "raving success" for Tottenham in 2023/24.

'They'll be a good watch' - McCoist on Postecoglou at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham will be “easy on the eye” but a top-four finish would be a “raving success” in the Premier League season ahead, says Ally McCoist.
The Australian manager was brought in from Celtic over the summer in the wake of a disappointing campaign where Spurs slumped to an eighth-place finish.
Antonio Conte, Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason all led the north London club in a disrupted year, but Postecoglou’s arrival, on the back of a domestic treble in Scotland, has renewed optimism.
Former Rangers and Scotland striker McCoist kept a close eye on Postecoglou’s spell north of the border and told TNT Sports what to expect under the Aussie.
“Celtic were a good watch and a good attacking side last year,” McCoist said.
“Big Ange was very good in his recruitment at Celtic.
“He obviously used his knowledge of the J-League very well and brought in very wisely. If he tries to play the same way at Tottenham, Spurs fans will enjoy it.
“I think they'll be a good watch. I'm really interested to see how it goes.
“James [Maddison] gave an indication that Ange has already said he wants to play in an attacking way. I think that will be the case.”
While McCoist expects Postecoglou’s free-flowing style to earn admirers, he isn’t convinced that Spurs will be able to aim for lofty ambitions in the season ahead.
The competition for Champions League spots in the Premier League looks set to be as fierce as ever in 2023/24 and Spurs fans might have to dampen their expectations after last season’s lowly finish, according to the 61-time Scotland international.
“You're looking for improvement in the league. The league is so, so difficult this year,” McCoist said.
“There's got to be improvement in Chelsea, I think Man United will improve.
“There's got to be Liverpool. I know they finished the season well, but you don't think they’ll start as poorly as they did [last season].

“You’re looking for a lot of improvement in a lot of teams and I think Spurs will be one of them.
“If you get into the Champions League, I think that would be a raving success to be brutally honest.
“To get top six wouldn't be a bad season, plus some easy on the eye football for the Spurs fans because that's what they enjoy.”
Tottenham kick off their Premier League campaign away to Brentford on Sunday, August 13.
