Almost a late chance for Genoa but Immobile's touch is heavy and much to Milan's relief, the ball rolls out for a goal kick.

The hosts are guilty on a couple of occasions of playing rashly and losing possession when surely short passes to men in space to run down the clock would be advised.

Four minutes of stoppage time for Milan to hold on for the three points.

Pazzini is lucky not to be booked for a high foot going in for a challenge with Granqvist.

Emanuelson, who behind El Shaarawy has been Milan's best player through what has been a tough 88 minutes so far, is replaced by Antonio Nocerino.

Looks like Milan are preparing their final substitution.

Genoa caught off-guard by a long ball counter from the hosts but Frey is out of his six-yard box quickly to beat Emanuelson to it and punt the ball out of play.

Another tidbit, El Shaarawy turned 20 today. Nice birthday present. He's also the first Milan player to score on his birthday in Serie A since Jose Mari in their 4-1 win over Lecce in 2000.

Jankovic is struggling a bit and gingerly walks off to make way for Cristobal Jorquera. That's all three changes for the visitors. Milan have one left.

Abate looks offside from the replays, mind you. Takes the gleam off the goal a little (and off the superb ball from Emanuelson), but Milan will not care. They NEED this win.

As promised in interviews, El Shaarawy did not celebrate the goal. Apparently with seven goals now before December, the youngster has won a bet with Ambrosini for a holiday...!

GOAL MILAN! It has finally come! It's El Shaarawy with the close-range finish after Abate's powerful low cross. Superb through pass from Emanuelson to put the right-back in position. 1-0!

El Shaarawy has no options other than to shoot from 25 yards. He fires over.

Now Yepes is booked at the other end for a challenge on Jankovic just outside the Milan box.
