Crystal Palace v Everton live: the big boys enter the FA Cup as the third round gets under way.

CALVERT-LEWIN DISMISSED IN STALEMATE

VAR was again centre-of-attention, intervening prior to the sending off of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, for what looked a fair challenge on Nathaniel Clyne. Everton, though, held out against a disappointing Palace, and the two sides will now replay at Goodison the week after next.

The first half was a dull affair with neither side really threatening or looking likely to score. Both, though, upped the tempo in the second half, though their combined lack of quality on the night made a positive result look unlikely.

Thus, on 76 minutes, came the game's major event, Calvert-Lewin sliding in and appearing to win the ball while engaging in a committed challenge with Clyne - whom he barely touched. The referee allowed it to go but when called to the screen by the video officials, he showed a red card - which comes with matching three-game ban.

Sean Dyche's evening did not improve when the unfortunate Dwight McNeil departed with what looked like a serious angle injury. But his team held out well and might've won the game when James Garner fired over the bar late on, A draw though, was a fair result because neither side did enough to win, and both will be happy enough to remain in the competition.

Both sides are in the hat for next round, and will replay at Goodison the week after next.

Everton have looked as likely to score since then. And they're seeing this out well.

Everton in shape. Then they work Eze into a central channel and he swipes across a decent low strike that Virginia turns around the post. As you might expect, he's been more influential since Everton went down to 10.

Then Onana clears. Palace might want to try going short from corners, because they're doing nothing knocking them into the box.

But Edouard picks up down the right and snaps in a decent cross that no one gets near to sticking away. But they come again, Mykolenko blocking behind when Edouard crosses. Eze will take...

Eze hasn't got on or been got on the ball often enough in dangerous areas, but he's involved in Mitchell winning a corner off Garner.

And when Guehi's header falls nicely for Harrison ... he yahoos over the bar. It's been that kid of game.

And Everton clear, Beto, who's done well since coming on, holds off two challenges and goes down following the third, administered by Hughes. He'll take that, and now I see that McNeil, who's had his sock cut, slid and went over on an ankle. He's still by side of the pitch - godspeed old mate - and Andre Gomes replaces him.

For an offence I am afraid I did not see, as my system choked. But McNeil is hurt, and he doesn't look happy. Everton are temporarily down to nine.

Ozoh and Edouard replace Lerma and Clyne. Hdogson wants this done.

Beto gets away down the right, drills a low cross towards the penalty spot ... and Garner slaps over the top. That was as good a chance as Dyche will have hoped for.

By the way, as Ron Atkinson would say, Calvert-Lewin has never been sent off before.

On this is going to be Shakespearian.

I don't know. This isn't the game I grew up with and fell in love with, so a red card - and a three-game ban - for that - isn't it, "for me", and happened in real-time, now slowmo. That doesn't mean I'm right - I see why it's been given - but if we want tackles in the game and we do,then, well, nah.

The kind of challenge you want in the game - a player sliding in, winning the challenge while sliding in and making contact. No one's hurt, and I know that's not the measure, but it looks the right side of the line to me because the ball was there and he won it, doing no damage. But I think he's struggling.

They just lack a bit of quality. Calvert-Lewin leaps, wins the second ball while lightly studding Clyne, then McNeil stands up Hughes and ducks inside ... but can't pick a decent pass. VAR might want a look at the challenge though...

Finds Onana who sets Calvert-Lewin away, and when the challenge comes in, the ball breaks to Danjuma, who scuffs his shot wide. That was a decent chance but there was no conviction in the finish.
