It brings to an end a long list of eye-watering statistics from his nine-year stint in the Spanish capital. A staggering 450 goals in 438 games, but his fitting final act was lifting the Champions League trophy for a fourth time as a Madrid player at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev.
Ronaldo immediately sparked rumours of his departure in the aftermath of the 3-1 victory over Liverpool, and while he moved to clarify his comments ahead of representing Portugal at the World Cup, Madrid have now confirmed his pending departure.
Countless records were broken by the Madeira-born star since joining from Manchester United for £80m in 2009, becoming Madrid’s all-time top scorer in October 2015 when he netted his 324th goal in the 3-0 win over Levante in La Liga.

He has since gone on to score 126 more times for the club, while his 85 strikes for Portgual make him his country’s all-time leading goalscorer. Courtesy of our good friends at Opta, we take a look some of those other impressive numbers from Ronaldo’s time at Madrid:
  • Ronaldo has scored 47% of his career professional goals in the Spanish Liga for Real Madrid (311/658) and is the all-time leading goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League (120). Only Lionel Messi (383) has scored more goals in La Liga than Ronaldo (311).
  • Cristiano Ronaldo scored 26 goals in the Spanish Liga last season, finishing behind only Lionel Messi (34) goals in the goalscorer charts.
  • The Portuguese forward topped the Champions League goal charts with 15 goals; five more than the next highest players: Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino & Mohamed Salah (10 each).
  • In all competitions, Ronaldo netted 44 goals for Real Madrid in 2017-18 – the only player to score more was Lionel Messi (45), while Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah equalled Ronaldo’s feat (also 44 goals).
  • Portugal talisman Cristiano Ronaldo became just the fourth player to score in four different World Cup tournaments (2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018) after Pele, Uwe Seeler and Miroslav Klose.
  • With his goals against Spain, Cristiano Ronaldo became the first European player in history to score in eight consecutive major tournaments (World Cup and European Championships).

  • Cristiano Ronaldo is the oldest hat-trick scorer in World Cup history, with the Portuguese star aged 33 years and 130 days when he scored his treble against Spain – the previous oldest was Rob Rensenbrink in June 1978 for the Netherlands against Iran (30y 335d).
  • This hat-trick was also Ronaldo’s 51st during his professional career and was also the 51st scored in World Cup history.
  • Ronaldo scored four goals from 21 shots at the 2018 World Cup (19% conversion rate); this after scoring three goals from 70 shots in 2006, 2010 and 2014 combined (4% conversion rate).
  • Portugal’s Last 16 defeat to Uruguay was Cristiano Ronaldo’s 38th game in World Cups/European Championships – no player has played in more across the two competitions (level with Bastia Schweinsteiger).
  • Overall in his career, Ronaldo has scored 27 goals against Spanish side Sevilla; five more than he’s scored against any other side.
  • He’s scored 10 goals against Juventus – the team he is rumoured to be set to join in the summer. All 10 of these goals have come in the Champions League, meaning they are the team he’s scored against the most in the competition.
  • Ronaldo’s best ever season as a professional came in 2011-12, when he scored 69 times for club and country. This is one of three seasons in which he’s scored 60+ goals overall, alongside 2013-14 (62) and 2014-15 (66).

  • Cristiano Ronaldo was the first player in Champions League history to reach 100 goals for the same club (105 goals currently). He set the record of goals scored in a single Champions League season (17 goals in 2013/14).
  • Ronaldo is the only player in the Champions League history to have scored in 11 consecutive games (17 goals). He is the only player in the Champions League history to reach 10+ goals in seven consecutive seasons.
  • 63% of Ronaldo’s career goals have come with his favoured right foot, but he’s also known for his aerial ability – netting 18% of goals (117) with his head.
