Kubica wary of media over Schumacher

The seven-time Formula 1 world champion has been in hospital in Grenoble in an induced coma since suffering severe head injuries in a skiing accident in Meribel last Sunday.

Kubica was also left fighting for his life when he had a horrific rallying accident in February 2011.

Schumacher's situation has received enormous international media coverage, and there were reports during the week of a journalist attempting to enter the ex-F1 driver's hospital room disguised as a priest.

"I was in a similar situation and I know media can play quite a hard game in a very difficult period for him, his family and close friends," said Kubica.

"For all motorsport for sure it's not the easiest end of last year and beginning of new year."

Some coverage of Schumacher's accident has focused on the dangers of skiing.

But Kubica reckons the German's injuries show that accidents can happen anywhere.

"It's hard news and shows that something can happen every day," he said.

"When I did my crash in the rally car people said why I am doing this, I shouldn't do it.

"But when you enjoy doing something it's normal that you want to do it. You can ski easy and a lot of things come together.

"I wish him all the best and definitely keep fingers crossed he will recover and everything will be fine."

Kubica's right forearm was partially amputated in his rally crash, and he also suffered multiple arm, leg and shoulder fractures.

After a long recovery process, he returned to competition in national-level rallying in late 2011, and last year won the World Rally Championship's WRC2 class.

This season he will contest the full WRC in an M-Sport Ford, and has also entered this weekend's European Rally Championship opener in Austria.
