Conor McGregor has apologised to fans after the UFC 303 press conference in Dublin was cancelled “due to a series of obstacles out of our control.”
McGregor is set to fight this month against Michael Chandler, after three years out of the Octagon.
His last fight saw his trilogy rematch with Dustin Poirier end in disaster after an early broken leg forced the end of the bout.
The Irish fighter has long since threatened a comeback, but it was not until UFC 303 was announced with him as the headliner that there was any certainty.
Given the long period since his last combat, there is some trepidation over the fight actually going ahead, and on Monday, the press conference was cancelled with 12 hours’ notice.
The event in Dublin was free, but ticketed, and promised to draw a strong crowd of McGregor followers in his home country.
“Dear UFC Fans, The #UFC303 press conference scheduled for Monday June 3rd in Dublin, Ireland at 3Arena has been postponed until further notice,” the UFC wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“We sincerely apologize to all the fans who were planning to attend. When we have further information on a new date and time, we will share it immediately. – Thank you.”
McGregor has now given his own apology and explanation on the social media site.
He wrote: “In consultation with the UFC, todays [sic] press conference was cancelled due to a series of obstacles outside of our control.
“I apologize to my Irish fans, and fans around the world, for the inconvenience and appreciate all your passion and support. I can’t wait to put on the greatest all-time show in the Octagon.”
