The European Masters – live on Eurosport and discovery+ between August 22-27 – has evolved into one of the most coveted tournaments on the snooker calendar.

The European Masters will be held at the KIA Metropol Arena in Nuremberg, Germany from August 22-27, 2023.

WHO IS PLAYING AT THE EUROPEAN MASTERS 2023?

Eight matches have been held over from qualifying, with defending champion Kyren Wilson, plus Ronnie O'Sullivan, Neil Robertson, Judd Trump and Shaun Murphy all playing on the opening day on August 22.
World No. 1 O'Sullivan missed out on the tournament last year due to medical reasons, but he returns for this year's edition as he looks to win it for the first time since beating Stephen Hendry in the 2003 edition - when it was known as the European Open - in Torquay.
The Rocket will play world No. 83 Peng Yisong if he can overcome Andy Hicks in the first round.
Robertson also returns this year, having opted out of the early action in last year's snooker season. The Australian will play China's Wu Yize in qualifying.
After beating Martin Gould 5-1 in the opening qualifying round, John Higgins has set up a second-round clash against world No. 71 Dylan Emery.

WHAT IS THE FORMAT AT THE EUROPEAN MASTERS 2023?

The tournament will be best-of-nine frames up to and including the quarter-finals. The semi-finals are best-of-11 frames, and the final will be best-of-17.

  • Tuesday 22 August – three sessions: eight held-over round one matches and 13 last-64 matches
  • Wednesday 23 August – three sessions: 19 last-64 matches, two last-32 matches
  • Thursday 24 August – three sessions: 14 last-32 matches, eight last-16 matches
  • Friday 25 August – three sessions: eight last-16 matches in opening two sessions; four quarter-finals in evening session
  • Saturday 26 August – two sessions, semi-final 1 in afternoon session, semi-final 2 in evening session
  • Sunday 27 August – final held across two sessions in afternoon and evening
