Governing body World Snooker decided to move the Grand Prix to Scotland last year to allow fans there to enjoy the event.
But the Guild Hall's general manager Chris Haylett told the Lancashire Evening Post: "We are doing everything in our power to get it back."
"These negotiations can take some time to come to fruition and it is likely to be well into the new year before anything is decided."
Australian Neil Robertson won this season's event in Aberdeen, beating Jamie Cope 9-5 in the final.
Ding Junhui, the 19-year-old Chinese star, will begin the defence of his UK Championship title in York on December 4.
