The 16-year old, a double junior world champion, progressed to the final in 11th place, scoring 436.60.
"I'm really happy to have made that final," said Laugher, who finished 33rd overall in the 1m Springboard earlier in the week.
"It feels so good to be in there at my first World Championships.
"The 1m wasn't my best performance but I used that as a way of getting into the competition
."I've learned so much from being here and I'm just loving the experience so far."
Tonia Couch finished ninth in the 10m platform final following her fourth place with partner Sarah Barrow in the synchro event earlier this week.
China's Ruolin Chen and Yadan Yu secured a 1-2 for the dominant hosts while Mexico's Paola Espinosa completed the podium.
"I'm happy with my final," said Couch. "I stepped up from the prelim and improved my ranking.
"The dives were okay. Not the best they could be but okay.
"I'm very chuffed to have made my fourth world final in a row and it feels really great to prove myself at this level.
"The aim was to get the Olympic spot and a World Series position. I just missed out on the World Series but to give Great Britain an Olympic place feels pretty good."
Great Britain retained their world ranking of seventh after the final of the free combination synchronised swimming.
Russia claimed yet another gold while hosts China and European powerhouses Spain completed the podium.
But British team member Lauren Smith claimed the performance was an improvement on the routine which debuted when they won bronze at the European Champions Cup earlier this year.
"That was better than the prelims and that was our aim. In terms of corrections we knew that we had to get the lifts to work better and improve our posture in the water," she said.
"We knew we could improve the corrections from the prelims so we were relaxed before the start. We've had good feedback from our coaches and I am pleased we put in a better performance."
