Del Potro in injury scare

US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro will play at the Australian Open despite pulling out of the Kooyong Classic with a wrist injury, tournament director Craig Tiley said.

World number four Del Potro pulled out of the warm-up tournament at Melbourne's Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club on Thursday after playing only one match, a 6-3 6-3 victory over Croatian journeyman Ivan Ljubicic the previous day.

"(He) decided to take a couple of days' break," Tiley told Australian state radio.

"He obviously wants to start 2010 well."

The 21-year-old Del Potro has been seeded fourth at Melbourne Park.

The tournament starts on Monday.
