THE 2024 ROLAND-GARROS WINNER, IGA SWIATEK ADDRESSES THE CROWD
The newly crowned four-time French Open champion says she's been impressed by Paolini's run and thinks she can continue to make her mark, especially on clay.
It's a nervy speech, and she doesn't like the feedback off her microphone, but she does refer to being almost out in the second round (v Osaka) and how the crowd helped her to believe this was possible in what proved to be an emotional tournament for her.
Iga finishes by wishing Paolini good luck in the doubles final tomorrow.

GAME, SET AND MATCH! - SWIATEK 6-2 6-1 PAOLINI
The World No.1 lives up to her burgeoning nickname as the Queen of Clay as she emulates Justin Henin and Monica Seles by becoming just the third woman to lift three Roland-Garros titles in a row.
It’s the Pole’s fourth triumph in Paris in the last five years and her fifth major title overall.
She serves out to 30 to clinch victory in just one hour and eight minutes to match the legendary Serena Williams’ feat (back in 2013) of winning the ‘Triple Crown’ of Madrid, Rome and Roland-Garros in the same year.
It was always a tall order for Paolini who struggled to combat Swiatek's incredible efficiency in her maiden major final appearance, but she will take some solace from a rise to No.7 in the singles rankings from Monday.
The 28-year-old could yet leave Paris with a winner’s trophy as she will play in the women’s doubles final with compatriot Sara Errani against No.5 seeds Coco Gauff and Katerina Siniakova.

SWIATEK 6-2 5-1 PAOLINI
On the board!
Quite literally everyone – aside from Iga – is happy to see Jasmine avoid the bagel.
A crushing crosscourt forehand sees her make a rare dent in the Swiatek defence for 30-15 but she then hooks way off court to feel some heat.
Staunch defence keeps her in a rally she’s second best in and Iga volleys wide with match point in sight.
Paolin then forces the serve-out question with a scorcher of a forehand right to the baseline.

SWIATEK 6-2 5-0 PAOLINI
Paolini shows just how good her tennis can be with aggressive approach shots followed by a dart to the net to angle away a lovely volley.
Unfortunately, Swiatek is in no mood to let-up as she crunches through the gears at 30-30 to hold and move within a game of the title.

HARSH BUT SWIATEK-OSAKA WAS ARGUABLY THE MATCH OF THE TOURNAMENT

BREAK! – SWIATEK 6-2 4-0 PAOLINI
Jasmine slides and stretches deep to her right corner to somehow claw another powerhouse forehand from her opponent back into play.
She gets height and depth on the slice, but Iga just steps in and brutally clouts another to the same wing to fire a clean winner.
The Eurosport Comms team discuss the tough situation the Italian is in and refer to a comment Tim Henman says, ‘that sometimes you are just at the limit of you DNA.’
It seems to be a sad truth here as Swiatek makes it nine games in a row with another break and it’s now just a case of when she lifts that trophy aloft once again.
15:01
SWIATEK 6-2 3-0 PAOLINI
That’s just gr-8 from Iga as she ruthlessly continues the surge of games in her favour.
The Pole consolidates to love while Evert waxes lyrical about the three-time champion’s mesmerising foot work that does the groundwork for a couple of tremendous winners.

BREAK! – SWIATEK 6-2 2-0 PAOLINI
There’s a lengthy period of applause to try and encourage Jasmine as she opens with a double fault.
It’s threatening to run away from the No.12 seed and Evert suggests Iga is confident that Paolini can’t hurt her with her weapons.
The Pole’s power, depth and precision work her to two break points but clutch serving sees Jasmine completely flip the game and take charge at deuce.
It’s a heartbreak though as Jasmine clouts two mid-court balls into the net and then hammers way off court after some outstanding defence off-balance form the top seed.
14:53
SWIATEK 6-2 1-0 PAOLINI
Jasmine has to play aggressive to have any hope at all here but that means hitting her marks and playing at a halcyon level.
She can’t find the lines as she unloads wide and long to allow Iga to comfortably open Set 2 with another routine game to 15.

SET! - SWIATEK 6-2 PAOLINI
The World No.1 is firmly in her groove now and it’s looking like an impossible mission for the Italian.
Swiatek breaks to love as Paolini runs out of ideas and the four-time major winner secures the opening set in 34 minutes with a fifth game on the spin.
14:43
SWIATEK 5-2 PAOLINI
The bright start has clouded over for Paolini.
The No.12 seed is producing the occasional moment of magic but it’s nowhere near enough against the relentless machine-like precision of Swiatek in full flow.
The Pole shrugs off a splendid forehand pass from her opponent to polish off a super point with a volley and consolidate with a confident game to 15.

BREAK! – SWIATEK 4-2 PAOLINI
Jasmine is playing catch-up throughout this game and in the end the strain tells.
The Italian stands firm in a brilliant 15-shot backhand exchange that sees Iga blink first to make 30-30, but a misfire on a 1-2 punch is followed by an ill-timed double fault to put the defending champion in the driving seat.
